For the Chunky Hexi Blanket you will need to know how to create a mattress stitch to sew all your hexagons together. I’ve written out some directions and created a video to show you how to create the mattress stitch. Its perfect for this blanket because your sewing yarn doesn’t show, allowing the hexagons to shine.
Mattress StitchUsing a long yarn tail and a yarn needle, secure the yarn tail to one hexagon. Sew through the first stitch from the back to the front. On a coordinating side of another hexagon, bring the yarn needle through the first stitch from the bottom (back) of the stitch (blanket) to the top (front) side. Continue working across the hexagon, stitching back and forth between them from the back to the front of each stitch. After you’ve created several sets of stitches, pull gently on yarn tail to tighten them up. The stitching strand will disappear! Continue on stitching back and forth between the hexagons, working from the back to the top of each stitch and tightening every few stitches. Tie off and weave in ends when you’re finished.
I’ve also created a video to show you how to create the mattress stitch.

At first, I dreaded sewing all the hexagons together, but it turned out kind of fun and exciting to see the blanket develop as I added each hexagon. Using the mattress stitch, it worked up quickly and professionally.
Let me know what you think and what other stitches you'd love to see a tutorial for.
Have a great day!
