October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The National Breast Cancer Foundation uses October as the month to really encourage women to take the steps to detect this disease in its early stages.
As a registered nurse, as well as a lactation consultant (IBCLC), I know how important early detection of breast cancer can be for women. There are also many steps women can take to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. One of those is to breastfeed their babies. For every month you breastfeed a baby, your chance of developing breast cancer goes down.
To promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I created crocheted breasts for my Etsy shop. These can be used by IBCLCs, Lactation Consultants, La Leche League Leaders, Peer Counselors, and other breastfeeding advocates to teach breastfeeding to new mothers and to problem solve breastfeeding issues.
I sell the finished breasts as well as the crochet pattern for those who would like to crochet their own breasts.
I recently had a large order of these crocheted breasts from a well known doula training program.
They don't have to be crocheted in "normal" colors!
This Lactation Consultant/Doula also had me create a breast with a flat nipple and a plugged duct to help teach new doulas and lactation consultants to recognize these "issues" and how to work with them.
Want to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month - crochet or purchase a breast for the favorite woman or mom in your life. Patterns are on my Etsy, Craftsy, and Ravelry shops.
Finished breasts for sale can be found on my Etsy shop. Convo me for favorite colors!
