Start small - if you are trying out a new stitch, don't start with a large project such as a baby blanket. It's much better to try the new stitch out on a small project such as a dish cloth until you have the pattern how you want it. Then you can make the pattern in a larger size. Unraveling and reworking your stitches until perfect is much faster and easier on a smaller scale. Try a baby hat before you make an adult hat!
